Proper Tea Storage; Defending the Leaf's Freshness
Dry tea leaves are highly porous and quickly absorb moisture, light, and ambient smells. Improper storage can degrade the finest tea leaves in a matter of weeks, leaving them flat and tasteless. The main enemies of tea are direct sunlight, humidity, heat, and strong kitchen spices.
For household use, transfer loose tea from paper cartons into opaque metal tins, dark glass jars, or ceramic containers with airtight, gasket-sealed lids. Keep the container in a cool pantry away from the stove. For larger operations like offices, cafes, and tea houses that purchase in bulk (such as Miad 999 or 7500 bulk cartons), store the unopened cartons in a dry, cool warehouse off the ground. Once opened, transfer the bulk leaves to large, airtight stainless-steel canisters.
Tea leaves act like a dry sponge. Storing them next to coffee or kitchen spices will permanently alter their natural aroma.
Our Miad Classic Black Tea packs are designed to protect the leaves, but transferring them to an airtight tin at home ensures the last cup is as fresh as the first.
